Today we decide for a two-day trip in eastern Texas, where moist air lingers for a prolonged time
and should lead to some robust storms. At lunch break in Sherman we spot these cumulus towers: This looks like initiation, so we start to drive east to get to the other side of the clouds: Arrived in Bonham we have to decide if we continue to chase that storm, or take a neex southern one that comes right out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. We take the southern one and see this left mover part of the storm: Near Farmersville the storm starts to look severe, sucks more air in and develops this beautiful wall cloud: Is this going to produce a tornado? Almost, the structure seems to fall apart somewhat: New development to the west: We enjoy that new round, and even while it remains low-end severe, it shows very nice structures and light: A time lapse of today's storms. Note the sharp cloud edges and turbulent motion within a rear flank cold air outflow between the two mesocyclones, how it suddenly gets more soft and laminar again when the second meso approaches, and the rather impressive rotation under that new updraft: |
