Not far from our overnight place we find the next storm, and it turns out to be
amazing with impressive structure and lightning:  Some video stills:     Press "Play" to see how the rotor is hit by a bolt and then dragging it slightly to the right: The sky turns dark and turbulent:  Radar reflectivities at 8:23pm:  We are driving around the east side of the storm and get pounded by a few big hail stones: Then we turn around back north to check the size of the fallen hail:    Amongst tones of golf balls we find a few stones up to two inches in diameter:   What a day! We have to go fix our windshield, though... thought we were somehow magically immune to hail when located outside of marginal risk. |
