01.05.2025: Wichita Falls - Chillicothe - Vernon - Wichita Falls (141 miles)

There is warm, quiet weather for most of the day today at our home base. However, the weather
models show a thunderstorm signal towards midnight in our backyard: So we decide to take a nap during the day and head out towards Vernon at dusk. Stood in the middle of nowhere and waited in the dark. Loved the vibe of that a lot! And exactly at 10 minutes after midnight, the show started with multiple cells popping up and merging and flickering like crazy all around us: As the system appoaches with starting wind and rain, we retreat a little bit towards home on highway 287, which turns out to be perfectly aligned with the storm's motion. We do this stop and go a few times and enjoy the scenes:  Finally we get back home and enjoy the very same system once again as it overtakes the city. We give it a solid three, because everything about that night felt just right for us. |
