Stormchase USA 2025 (Index)

03.06.2025: Wichita Falls - Seymour - Throckmorton - Breckenridge - Jacksboro - Wichita Falls, TX (316 miles)

Rating:

Last chase day for us this year. The models show a line of storms forming west of Oklahoma and then move eastwards with strong gusts being the main threat. We stay at our home base until around noon, when we suddenly spot some deepening cumulus clouds near Haskell, in the white circle. There is additional cumulus forming where we suppose the forming line in the white ellipse. The southwestern target looks better to us, so we move to Seymour, just to be a bit closer to these clouds.

Two hours later, our clouds are mostly gone, and the line north of us looks great. We give our target some more time in hope to get an isolated cell, but yes, it pulls our nerves to look at those storms over Oklahoma:

Another hour goes by, there is a severe thunderstorm watch coming for the storms north of us. They are individually severe-warned too, it looks really intriguing. But still we insist that there might be an isolani storm over Texas soon, as clouds deepen in our area as well:

Another long hour later the big smile for us. A storm is going up in the meanwhile 93° super-humid air down here, the waiting has an end:

We drive under that thing immediately. It will give us shadow, cooler air, cooler view, cooler time:

Look how this storm is exploding! This is overperforming, compared to the risks and expectations today!

It gets green, starts to rotate and loud canon-like thunderstucks are coming down on us, just how we love it:

Video of the monster storm forming, that sound it makes!

We move a bit ahead of the storm to Hubbard Creek Lake at Breckenridge and watch that dark mass of water vapor approaching:

Time-lapse of the approach, impressive!

Not enough for today! We observe another storm north of us, that looks good on radar as well. Quickly we move up towards Jacksboro and spot this beauty, amazing!

Solid 4 stars today! Tomorrow we travel home to Switzerland - more than happy with the amount of severe weather and beauty we saw, thanks for following us on our journey, big kudos to the whole great team for collecting all those fantastic impressions on photo and film, and for all the hours of efficient but safe driving, it was a BIG pleasure!
